Making you cry was the best & worst thing I've ever done.

Dearest Francis,
I first want to start off by saying it is very typical of me to do this, and you know that. I have never sat down and told you flat out what an impact you've had on my life. I have not known you for very long at all; two years at most. In those two years you I can admit you've made your impact on Shelby Jean Forsyth. At the moment you probably think that you're making me rebellious when instead, you're making me, more me. The day I made you cry(for reasons only we know) was the worst day of my life. To have to sit there and see you cry partially because of me made me grow up pretty quickly. From that experience I have found out that making you cry has made me the friend I am to you. I could spend hours listening to you ramble on the phone about the various topics we face in our lives. Even though you do 80% of the talking most of the time(haha) I wouldn't trade those memories for anything. We've faced a lot together. You've sat and listened to me complain, you've seen and heard me ache, you've watched me while cramping morph my body into odd shapes while trying to make myself feel better, and mostly you've simply been there. You have reminded me, and you still do, about the person I am. You stand up for me when I just can't do it on my own. We've gone places and have gotten lost, but ended up in a good destination. We jam out to Taylor Swift and laugh about how her songs capture each moment we seem to have. We have concerts in your car and we are killer at duets(you being the guy and I being the girl..haha). You, Francis Julia Diaz, are going so beyond far in life. I know at the moment the future seems very cloudy due to all these decisions you're about to have to make, but I know you'll make the right ones. I am confident that where ever you end up you will be fine. You are intelligent and so bright. Don't let the world get you down. You were born to shine and you are born to SUCCEED. Even though sometimes we drive each other beyond CRAZY I still love you. You are one of the best friends I have ever made, and I am so blessed to know you. Stay strong in life and always put God first. I love you.
-Shelby

A Letter to Asher Rae.

Baby Asher, Your momma is currently in labor and in a few hours you'll make your grand debut into this world. From the moment I knew you were coming I was in shock and how much my heart could grow. I work with sweet children all day and I love them so much. The love I already have for you is so different. You'll be the first grandchild of my parents, and you'll be my first ever niece. You're coming into a world that is incredibly hard and difficult. With your amazing parents in your life you'll be taught how to be strong and to be valiant in all circumstances. Your dad, my brother, is an excellent human being. He is dedicated, he is a dreamer, he is a hard worker, and he will be the most amazing father. Your mom is so beautiful. She is loving, she is patient, and she loves your dad so much. Your grandma, my mom, is SO excited for you. She will love you and spoil you, but she will also help you when things get hard. Your Grandma Forsyth is a tough woman. The toughes...

Knowing thy IMPACT

One day I'll get around to sharing the story about how I applied for and got my new job. I have to say that it most certainly is 100% credited to my Heavenly Father and his plan for my life. Often we don't see the things we need in life until things are put into our path that lead us in a different direction. For the purpose of this post I wanted to share some thoughts being on the outside of the beginning of a new school year. This is mostly for my teacher friends and those who start teaching this year so if you get bored, please do yourself a favor and stop reading. Being a teacher is a tough gig. Daily we make thousands of split-second decisions and impact people in ways we will never fully know the extent of. John Hattie once said, "know thy impact." Each day you'll strive to be better than the day before. You'll hope and pray that your babies (students) will learn something more than just "things." We'll hope and pray that they learn how t...

Good Ole Sundays

So usually my Sundays consist of the same things: church, lunch, nap, dinner, and homework. Today was not the same, and it has made me crazy. So to start off my lovely Sunday, we only had church for a hour. Some of you may know why, but for others here is the explaination. While our beautiful building is being built, we go to church in 3 metal buildings. Only one of these has decent insulation. Since Florida has decided to become Antartica, it was quite cold, causing us to only have one hour of church and not three. Lunch was wonderful, and was quite normal considering the rest of my day. After lunch I walk back into the kitchen and find my mother humming a lady gaga song. I never understood her amazingness fully until today. So then comes naptime. Oh how I LOVE naptime on Sundays. So I go lay down and start watching tv, and I couldn't sleep. GREAT. Then finally after about 2 hours I fall asleep, and wake up ten minutes later. Just dandy. I was not a happy person to say the least. ...
