Today I am tired.

Today I am tired. I'm tired most days but today I'm especially exhausted. Some days teaching takes everything out of me. Some days teaching pushes all my buttons. Some days I get home and feel like nothing I do will make a difference. The hard kids will still be hard tomorrow. The unloved kids will come to school tomorrow needing love. The behaved will still be golden. The math lesson will happen. The energy will be used. The feet will hurt. The day will start. The day will end. That bell always comes.

Without even meaning to, my mind thinks of that one student. The one student today who had a break through. The one student who found a friend. The one student who was praised. The one student who was complimented. The one student who did well on multiplication. The one student who served another without being asked. The one student who had 6 hours away from a hard home life. The one student who walked in and felt loved. The one student who learned something new. The one student who easily becomes all students.

When you're a teacher each day brings a new challenge. No day is completely easy. That's a lesson every teacher needs to learn really fast. Another thing all teachers need to learn is that even on your worst day, you're still some child's best hope. I love being an educator. I love expanding minds and pushing limits. I love how I'm missed when I'm gone. I love how I'm a consistent figure in 22 lives. I love how I get to truly be me.

Today I am tired. I'm tired most days but today I'm especially exhausted. Today I am exhausted and today I am lucky to have such amazing things behind my exhaustion.

Knowing thy IMPACT

One day I'll get around to sharing the story about how I applied for and got my new job. I have to say that it most certainly is 100% credited to my Heavenly Father and his plan for my life. Often we don't see the things we need in life until things are put into our path that lead us in a different direction. For the purpose of this post I wanted to share some thoughts being on the outside of the beginning of a new school year. This is mostly for my teacher friends and those who start teaching this year so if you get bored, please do yourself a favor and stop reading. Being a teacher is a tough gig. Daily we make thousands of split-second decisions and impact people in ways we will never fully know the extent of. John Hattie once said, "know thy impact." Each day you'll strive to be better than the day before. You'll hope and pray that your babies (students) will learn something more than just "things." We'll hope and pray that they learn how t...

COVID

The world of COVID-19 has been a world I never imagined possible. While this time has taken away so many things I am grateful for the things it has given me. I've found my new normal and for someone who loves structure that has been a huge relief. I don't feel the need to do as much. I don't feel as rushed. I dropped my ipad on the tile today and cracked the screen pretty badly and I didn't even cry. Things have become things and my trips to Target don't seem as crucial anymore. I've been sewing. I thank my grandmas and my aunts for their love of sewing that is now ingrained on my heart. I watch a lot of TV. I do a lot of cooking. Who knew?

Good Ole Sundays

So usually my Sundays consist of the same things: church, lunch, nap, dinner, and homework. Today was not the same, and it has made me crazy. So to start off my lovely Sunday, we only had church for a hour. Some of you may know why, but for others here is the explaination. While our beautiful building is being built, we go to church in 3 metal buildings. Only one of these has decent insulation. Since Florida has decided to become Antartica, it was quite cold, causing us to only have one hour of church and not three. Lunch was wonderful, and was quite normal considering the rest of my day. After lunch I walk back into the kitchen and find my mother humming a lady gaga song. I never understood her amazingness fully until today. So then comes naptime. Oh how I LOVE naptime on Sundays. So I go lay down and start watching tv, and I couldn't sleep. GREAT. Then finally after about 2 hours I fall asleep, and wake up ten minutes later. Just dandy. I was not a happy person to say the least. ...
