My Decision to Teach

I never wanted to be a teacher, but I always knew I would be one. It was in High School volunteering in a classroom when I realized that I did want to be a teacher. I wanted the thrill of creating my own classroom and then having 20+ little faces walk in on the first day with their eyes and minds just as excited as mine. I wanted the assurance of a profession where I knew that I could make a difference and that I could do my part to make the world a better place. I remember the teachers in my life that made a difference. Those teachers who knew who I was and what I was capable of even when I didn't see it myself. I also remember those teachers who didn't make a difference. It was those teachers that made me dislike certain subjects and made me doubt my intelligence and my ability to succeed. When I decided to choose teaching as the career I would do for the rest of my life I made a promise to myself to be the best I could be. I made a promise to be patient, kind, encouraging, and positive. I made a promise to make an impact and to never give up on students who make me question my decision to become a teacher. People sometimes look down on teaching because it seems "easy" or "babysitting" or even because of the salary. I would like to say to those people to try and create a lesson where students are engaged, learning, and behaving, all while having students use their own creativity and intuition to become successful. I take pride in my decision to become a teacher. I am grateful for my future students and the lessons they will teach me. I know i'm not an official teacher yet, but today I took a big step on my journey! Today was my first day of practicum. Practicum is a four-week long experience where I get placed into a classroom (1st grade in my case) and begin teaching lessons. I get to experience the day to day of teaching while still being a student at BYU. BYU has this great program set up to help future educators become great before they do their student teaching and then graduate. I love my new classroom and my new students. For four weeks I get to be with them and I could not be more excited! Here are some pictures of my first day:

My face this morning. I was scared to death!

I got to training this morning 15 minutes early. I was so paranoid about being late!

Welcome to the classroom! I wasn't as nervous after that.

Oh you can just call me Miss Forsyth!

A Letter to Asher Rae.

Baby Asher, Your momma is currently in labor and in a few hours you'll make your grand debut into this world. From the moment I knew you were coming I was in shock and how much my heart could grow. I work with sweet children all day and I love them so much. The love I already have for you is so different. You'll be the first grandchild of my parents, and you'll be my first ever niece. You're coming into a world that is incredibly hard and difficult. With your amazing parents in your life you'll be taught how to be strong and to be valiant in all circumstances. Your dad, my brother, is an excellent human being. He is dedicated, he is a dreamer, he is a hard worker, and he will be the most amazing father. Your mom is so beautiful. She is loving, she is patient, and she loves your dad so much. Your grandma, my mom, is SO excited for you. She will love you and spoil you, but she will also help you when things get hard. Your Grandma Forsyth is a tough woman. The toughes...

COVID

The world of COVID-19 has been a world I never imagined possible. While this time has taken away so many things I am grateful for the things it has given me. I've found my new normal and for someone who loves structure that has been a huge relief. I don't feel the need to do as much. I don't feel as rushed. I dropped my ipad on the tile today and cracked the screen pretty badly and I didn't even cry. Things have become things and my trips to Target don't seem as crucial anymore. I've been sewing. I thank my grandmas and my aunts for their love of sewing that is now ingrained on my heart. I watch a lot of TV. I do a lot of cooking. Who knew?

Just in the nick of time.

If any of you really know me, you know that I'm a freak when it comes to time. I consider myself late if I'm not at least five minutes early. Well lately I think time has been trying to make me even more crazy than I already am. Today it was my day to drive to college (I car pull with one of my friends) and we both know that I'm a very careful driver and am against going over 5 miles the speed limit. We leave the school late, but luckily we made it in time. After college I went back to school to kill time before I had to pick up Dylan. I wasn't paying attention to the clock, and was almost late again. Lucky for me Dylan's bus was late today, making me not late either. YAY ! Next I'm at home getting ready for the Junior Class Parent meeting that I am in charge of, and I started falling behind on all the things I needed to get done for my meeting. I leave the house really late this time, and because I don't speed, I was late to my own meeting. Once again ...
