I searched and searched for some fancy little picture to put at the beginning of this post but came up empty handed. Sorry for the lack of artistic ability, my Pinterest must not have been working properly. Everyone knows what tomorrow is. Everyone has seen the floods of pink and red in every shopping market, the cute ads on TV, and felt the nervous excitement that has filled the air. Tomorrow is Valentines Day. I'm sure someone will get engaged, someone will receive flowers, someone will eat lots of chocolate, and I'm SURE that many people will sit around and feel sorry for themselves and then complain about it on Facebook or Twitter. Some things never change. Where do I fit in, you might ask? Well, I happen to LOVE this holiday. Yes, I am single. No, I am not married or even close to being engaged. How on earth could I love Valentines day? Here are my reasons:
1. The people who have a "special someone" are happy. They laugh, cry, and smile at the gifts they receive. The girls get all dolled up for their men and feel good about themselves. They get to celebrate having love and being in love and that makes me happy! I love to see others happy.
2. I love the half-off stuffed animals my mom would get me every year the day after Valentines day. She would go to the store, get me a stuffed animal, and would do it every year. I loved this tradition and will really miss it this year (silly 2,000 miles).
3. Nothing makes me happier than the idea of love. I could care less about Valentines Day. I know that one day I will fall madly in love and celebrate my love forever. I won't need a day to remind me how much I love him, I will love him always. I'm sure I will love Valentines Day even more once I'm married, simply because it's the one day out of the whole year where everyone recognizes your love. It will happen, all in due time.
For many, tomorrow could be a depressing day. To those people I would like to say: Life is too short to spend a day that celebrates love by being unhappy. Cheep up and go buy yourself some chocolates :)
